DiScover - Inbox Gold #1: New Music Picks from DiS' Editor

News by Sean Adams

The lack of new music on DiS is starting to feel like a bit of an over reaction. There's still plenty that trickles into our editor's inbox and social media feed that is worth more of you checking out. These are the best things that have been fired our way recently.»

Tom Odell - Long Way Down

Review by Sean Adams

It’s not that it’s a record without a highlight. There’s the charm offensive of a Thermos-carrying stalker who wears a winter jacket all summer long that is ‘Another Love’, with its decently crafted chorus and stripped down Arcade Fire flair, which is a real standout.»

2013 Half-Year Digest: Most Reads & Must Reads

News by Sean Adams

The first six months of the year went by with a flash of Bowie, the whoosh of Daft Punk, Boards of Canada, My Bloody Valentine, and the crash of Nine Inch Nails returning... we thought we better take stock of the year so far, and give you lot (hello!) a digest of what people were reading (or at least what they were clicking on). Hopefully this will help catch some of you up with anything (and everything) you might have missed.»

Darkstar, Ed Harcourt, Halls, Wall +more for 3 DiS-curated nights at Great Escape 2013

News by Sean Adams

This year, we've at least matched our previous endeavours, with three nights of music that takes in everything from tearful piano balladry in a church to grunge-guzzling, riotous, rock'n'roll in a tiny bar through to a club-venue with music that's so post-dubstep that it might actually be from the future.»

The Veils - Time Stays, We Go

Review by Sean Adams

There’s everything here that those in the know have come to love and expect from The Veils, but there’s also a window in for the rest of you, so peer on in and you’ll see there’s a red velvet chocolate heartache cake just waiting for you to scoop it up. It’s laced with something special, but I can’t begin to describe what it is.»

Nick Cave & TBs to headline ATP Iceland + amiina video exclusive + mixtape

News by Sean Adams

"On July 25th 2009 we headed our way from Seyðisfjörður towards the Dalatangi Lighthouse (far-east Iceland) in our van, loaded with all our instruments through narrow, steep roads and miles of fjords and heaths where not a trace of human inhabitants could be found. The rough dirt road with all it's blind turns and the steep drop into the ocean on one side freaked us out a bit, so when we finally got to the lighthouse we were both relieved and touched by the harsh beauty of the lighthouse and it's surroundings." - Maria Sigfusdottir from amiina»

News by Sean Adams

As comeback singles go, this is awesome x700! “I guess people will be surprised there’s a rapper on the album. We just did a song that we felt needed a rap verse. In order to keep making music we have to surprise ourselves. If we stop doing that we’ll have to stop making music.” »

Friday Fun: Can Comic Books Save the Music Industry?

News by Sean Adams

"The comic comes from a long line of our fans doing totally amazing things for us! We've had so many awesome things made for us over the years from fans, including incredibly powerful videos from Broken Pixel and Ana Stefaniak (who both won awards off the back of their videos) to this comic, which we thought was such a cool idea and executed absolutely perfectly by the lovely and very talented Rachael Smith, who is a Leicester based artist who makes these gorgeous looking comics. I can't exactly remember how it all got started, but we know Rachael from our shared Leicester connection, and I think one day we all saw these drawings she'd done of us and the idea just snowballed into this amazing comic!" - Sophie, Her Name is Calla»

From Seattle to SXSW: Frightened Rabbit vs America

In Depth by Sean Adams

Earlier this year, DiS' favourite anthemic Scottish indie-rock band Frightened Rabbit released their fourth album Pedestrian Verse. Rather than sending the band some inane questions, we thought it would be far more interesting to ask that rather eloquent so-and-so Scott Hutchison to keep a diary for us, documenting their adventures in the US of A. We also borrowed some of their Instagrammed shots from the road... »

Music Fans: A Moment of Your Time, Please.

News by Sean Adams

It doesn't matter if you're a fan of the band School of Seven Bells (or his previous band Secret Machines) or not. A human being who makes music and has huge medical bills needs our help. So please take a second to read this, and if you can spare the price of a pint or more, it would be a big help. If you don't have any money, the least you can do is spread the word: »
