Girl That Speaks No Words

Label: PIAS Recordings Release Date: 09/10/2006

Strangely enough, we were having this discussion over a pint the other day about how New Order are one of the most influential bands of recent times yet never really get the recognition they deserve.

Infadels obviously recognise this, too: 'Girl That Speaks No Words' doesn't just owe a few synth bleeps here and Captain Hook struck bass lines there, but literally recites the dictionary according to Barney Sumner and company, albeit to a more post-Trash backbeat. No amount of remixes - there are three on this single if you want to count 'em - can convince me otherwise.

Slightly more interesting is their über-electronic cover of The Raconteurs' 'Steady As She Goes', which may see Messrs White and Benson donning wedge-shaped haircuts and skinny ties whilst robot-dancing incessantly.
