LCD Soundsystem

Disco Infiltrator

Label: DFA Records Release Date: 06/06/2005

8592
Matthewjbutler by Matthew Butler June 2nd, 2005

For someone routinely masturbated upon from a great height by style magazines with their fingers (literally) on the pulse, James Murphy is a pleasingly cynical fucker.

However, before morphing into the Victor Meldrew** of dance, here the infiltrator appears to be shaking the moneymaker, rather than simply rolling his eyes at piggybank obsessed superstar DJs. Basically, kids, it’s not as good as ‘Daft Punk Is Playing…’ – which in turn wasn’t a touch on ‘Losing My Edge’ - but then as this new single attests: “Bear in mind, we all fall behind, from time to time.”

No one should care though because although LCD isn’t quite the resurrecting Jesus figure wanted by those on disco-biscuit diets, this is still light years ahead of the competition. (And yes, that even includes post-modern masterpieces such as the genius of Crazy Frog) The bass crunches are backed up by playfully looping keys seemingly lifted from Father Dougal**’s BBC Sound Effects Volume Four LP (see track 7: ‘Shite UFO Noises’)

On this evidence, the Murphy, he’s not bitter.
