It is very difficult to give you any bands/music, past or present, with whom you can compare The Chap. Sonically they are most definitely an inimitable band. Formed by Johannes Von Weizsaeker (Karamasov guitarist), The Chap are, for want of a better category, alternative rock or even ‘New wave disco rock’. But, realistically, that doesn’t tell you a thing about them or this, their debut single.

‘I Got Flattened By A Pig Farmer’ incorporates a funk bass, synth, uber-modern guitar, and some wonderfully uninterested vocals. They are hazily reminiscent of the experimental sounds of Niko and in general, of the sixties, yet with a modern progression. They run ‘I got flattened by a pig farmer / I got flattened by a sumo wrestler’. A governing female voice, through the use of a vocoder, relating her accounts of, put simply, getting squashed. This single definitely has the ingredients to crossover into the world of experimental art-music, which you can either raise your eyebrows up and grin at or throw yourself on the floor and despair at.
