Five Thousand Minutes Of Pain

Label: Ignition Release Date: 09/09/2002

2332
gdobson by Gareth Dobson September 9th, 2002

**Guitars (around 432 of them), glockenspiel, weird gloopy things and kitchen sinks**, all these instruments feature heavily in this glorious, progged-out pop epic, an ode to his own, intrinsically fatalistic view of relationships;

_"I give my all, keep nothing back, I was cynical in my own time, there's not enough people of my kind... I'm fighting on a daily basis for truth and honour"_, laments Matt Jones.

"Save yourself, save yourself, just save yourself" he implores, perhaps recalling his days as keyboardist in Ultrasound. Save his career he has, but can he save his soul? Not if he's going to be this intrinsically depressed about proceedings. _"I'm scared to touch another life". _A worrying statement indeed.

Still, as the tune goes into overdrive, it reminds of nothing quite so much as a space-age version of Bernard Butler-era Suede, amd you realise that we have to thank the man for his neurosis'. Top tune.
