Daft Punk

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Label: Virgin Release Date: 05/11/2001

870
greed by Graham Reed November 1st, 2001

Now, 4th single off the instant, catchy and commerical “Discovery” album, this is simplistic to the point of inanity. Its formulaic and reductionist: vocoder + sweeping effects + bpm’s = Daft Punk.

Daft Punk lately have been on a regression: from the sophistication of the debut album “Homework”, the current album is a step backwards – dancefloor friendly, commercial, very 80’s. This single is a perfect example of undemanding, brainless dancefloor filling hookladen current culture.

In its own way, it's brilliantly effective: It does exactly what it says on the tin. But it ain’t art, and it say nothing about the human condition, except lets get down, party and have it large… But its not harder, better, faster or stronger; its just simply quite inoffensive, and yet oddly, quite good.
