Jennifer Lopez

Play

Label: Epic Records

353
ransell by Rachelle Ansell May 15th, 2001

The Butt is back. She has dumped Puffy (no, I never will be able to bring myself to call him P Diddy as I get the giggles each time I say it.). She has changed her name to the infinitely snappier J-Lo. And she is releasing a nice little r’n’b number that is a bit like most of her other tunes.

There are two versions of Play on this single, and frankly the only difference is that the album edit is 14 seconds longer. As songs go it is funky, inoffensive, hummable and flirtatious. Oldies and youngies will happily shake their stuff to this and even I will refrain from throwing things at the tv as J-Lo sings breathily in to the mic and implores the DJ to “play that song, ‘cos you know that it turns me on.” And gets my pet goldfish shaking it’s scales and wearing gucci sunglasses. Oh yes.
