Rufus Wainwright: Graces the UK in May
sean by Sean Adams February 29th, 2004
O' what a world we live in... the bright light in the depths of the underworld is getting on a fast plane to the UK in May...

Last year Rufus Wainwright released one of the finest, most captivating records in recent memory. A truly epic record which sent shivers down our spines with its opera meets Sinatra swings and roundabouts. 'Want One' was never going to do a Dido or Norah Jones, but it sure as hell wouldn't be wrong for those Mortgage slaves to check him out, not that it makes his record any worse... we digress..

'Want One' was meant to be a double album, but the record company thought it better to release two albums, so the result is 'Want Two' which we hear through the grapevine has just been finished, but may have some new material added to it.

Rufus recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the record and possible release date: "My personal goal is to have it out before the presidential election. Want One very much deals with my own personal battles, whereas Want Two turns around and tries to tackle some of the earthly troubles that we're in right now. And I'd hate for the Democrats to win the election."

But what you really wanna know is, when is he here?

MAY
22nd + 23rd Brighton Dome Hal Willner's Come So Far For Beauty: An Evening Of Leonard Cohen Songs with Laurie Anderson, Nick Cave, The Handsome Family, Linda Thompson and Teddy Thompson. (Onsale March 5th).
24th London Royal Festival Hall
25th Dublin Vicar Street
27th Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall
28th Glasgow Royal Concert Hall
30th Manchester Lowry Theatre

Rufus will be joined at all of these shows by Kate and Anna McGarrigle and Martha Wainwright.

Reports also suggest, that Wainwright has a small role in Martin Scorsese's upcoming film, The Aviator (imdb info), which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes and Cate Blanchett as Katharine Hepburn.

DiScuss: Did Want One touch your world last year? Why hasn't he taken over the world yet? Ryan Adams vs Rufus, who wins?
