Sex Pistols - Some More Controversy. Yawn.
greed by Graham Reed July 28th, 2002
The Sex Pistols, have landed Virgin FM into controversy..... through no fault of their own!

In a complaint to the Radio Authority, Virgin Radio have been censured for playing their track (which was recently re-released) "God Save the Queen". Nothing in particular offensive about that, except that....

It followed a news article that featured a report on how the Queen was planning to deliver a eulogy about her late Queen Mum, who died only days before on 31 March!

Virgin stated that the music was preprogrammed days in advance and the news and talk was slotted in closer to broadcast date. The Radio Authority rules and regulations state that programmes should be checked "to ensure that jokes or scenarios are not rendered tasteless by intervening events, such as death". Virgin have since stated that the incident was "unintentional and regrettable".

Ahem.

The closest thing that the Sex Pistols got to a statement was when they played London's Crystal Palace yesterday, (one of the stands at the stadium is called the "Jubilee Stand 1977", coincidentally) and apart from dedicating "Pretty vacanT" to graham norton, started their set with a cover of Hawkwind's 1972 top ten hit "Silver Machine". How punk rock is that?

Heres the setlist from crystal palace, fact fiends:
01.Intro Tape - God Save The Queen (Leftfield mix) 02.Silver Machine 03.Holidays By The Sun 04.I Wanna Be Me 05.No Feelings 06.Substitute 07.Seventeen 08.Pretty Vacant 09.Don’t Give Me No Lip, Child 10.Did U No Wrong 11.New York 12.Submission (featuring lines from Hello I love you / All the Day and All of the night) 13.No Fun 14.Satellite 15.I'm Not Your (Stepping Stone) 16.Bodies 17.Belsen Was A Gas 18.Through My Eyes 19.Liar 20.Problems 21.EMI Encores: 22.My Way 23.Anarchy in the UK 24.God Save the Queen
