Deerhunter go on hiatus
TheBoyDeadly by TheBoyDeadly November 20th, 2007

Bagging up a haul of trophy antlers, Deerhunter are gonna take a hiatus and let stocks replenish in the first part of 2008.

Buoyed by the strength of their own, swiftly-recorded Cryptograms longplayer and its companion piece EP Fluorescent Grey, this year has been a rewarding and busy one for the act.

Frontman Bradford Cox announced the break on the Deerhunter ‘blog:

“The show we are playing at Primavera in Barcelona (I hope to god i spelled that right) will be our last for quite some time. It will also be the last time we are ever playing the Cryptograms set we have been playing for the last two years.

“After that the band are going on hiatus. We all need some time to organize our lives. Thanks to everyone who has helped us out. This has been a crazy year that I will always remember.”

That slot at Primavera comes on the 8th of December.

In the meantime, expect offshoots Atlas Sound and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome to flower; the former – the work of Cox and, occasionally, guitarist Lockett Pundt – releasing a debut record on the 19th of February.

Expect Deerhunter to be back by May, when they play the ATP vs. Pitchfork weekender in Camber Sands.

Read Mike Diver’s recent interview with the act here; and vote for Cryptograms or 49 other records in our reader-voted end of year list here.
