Beastie's Unite NY in Benefit gig
DiSvsMatt by Mat Hocking October 18th, 2001
In response to the tragic events of September 11th and the subsequent actions of the US government The Beastie Boys have announced a benefit concert consisting of a number of major New York acts. Adam Yauch says this:

"in the midst of this madness adam and mike and i got together to discuss what we might be able to do that would be constructive. and we decided to put on a benefit concert called "New Yorkers against violence." we (Beastie Boys) will do a short hip hop set with Mix Master Mike. also on the bill will be The Strokes, B-52's, Cibo Matto, Saul Williams, Rival Schools and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. I hope that anyone that has the time and is in the neighborhood will be able to come and join us.

The event will be taking place at the Hamerstein Ballroom in Manhattan on Sunday Oct 28th. Tickets are available here and from Weds Oct 10th at Ticketmaster, all US ticketmaster outlets, and the Hamerstein Ballroom box office.

All profits raised from the show will go to two funds created to help people affected by the WTC tragedy of sept 11th - one created by New York Association for New Americans (NYANA) and the other by New York Women's Foundation (NYWF). Anyone wishing to donate to those funds directly can connect to them through these links.

As you probably all know, the Beastie's record label and clothing company Grand Royal closed down last month due to "overwhelming financial losses" but they are in the process of building a new milarepa site at http://www.milarepa.org that people can check in on for updates about the concert, or to participate in general discussions about violence vs. nonviolence...
