I am ONE!
sean by Sean Adams October 2nd, 2001
Yesterday, was the first birthday of this 'ere site, Drownedinsound. It has been an eventful year with comings and goings, developments, attacks and various forms of discovery.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has played a part in the past year and congratulate all our staff of volunteers for making this possible. Especially Matthew Willson our web-designer who created this amazing site you see before you. I think we can safely say we’ve done the best we can with our limited means, kept our passion, honesty and souls intact. I think the grand total we’ve spent on real business stuff has been around £300 but it’s only money. Although, money is going to be important to moving us onwards to help build upon our 4,000hits or so a day.

So what has happened? Well, the biggest thing has probably been our linking up, crossing over resources with Probemusic, which is a free music paper, currently only in London with a distro of 10,000. A lot of the reviews and interviews on this site appear in the paper.

In retrospect, our first year kicked off with a launch party featuring Twist, Pusha and Autumn. Twist continue to go from strength to strength, with a new EP released yesterday. Pusha, with the help of me, released a sold out, limited edition single entitled ‘Lowlife’, they’ve taken some time off recently to reassess themselves as well as their direction but they shall be back, I hope. Autumn recently changed their name to Exhibit A and have an EP out next month, plus they play the first Drownedinsound Tour in support to Miss Black America and Antihero, our two main discoveries in the past few months. Those two bands have gone from strength to strength also. Just last week Miss Black America had an amazing review in the N*w M*s*c**l *xpr*ss as well as performing a session for John Peel. We may or may not have played a part in their success so far but we have plans over the next year to help the bands we spot and scream for, just that little bit more.

In the next year we hope to crank things up to the next level with regular clubnights, more tours, compilation CDs [my ‘product of imagination’ idea is still in the pipeline], a members club, more interactivity, even more depth and resource, more free music + videos and also a facelift is in the planning stage. The main thing is, we’re not going to go away, we’re just going to get stronger, more determined, play an even more proactive part in providing bands a pedestal and give fans a doorway which should never have been shut on us.

I know this may sound like rhetorical bullshit but I believe we can do it, people who help run DiS believe we can do it and the only thing slowing us down is money, time and luck.

Thank you for your continued support/hate/love.
