DrownedinSound.com editorial ch-ch-changes: job vacancies
sean by Sean Adams February 6th, 2007

It is with a heavy heart that DiS gazes at a new horizon.

Following a mutual decision, last week DiS’s editor Colin Roberts – aka Crablin, MC Crabby Crab, Crabface; other names are available – left the website. In two years at DiS, Colin rose from contributor to editorial assistant to the site’s editor, and has been the vibrant voice and face of DiS throughout his tenure. His big personality will be much missed at the helm of DiS, in the DiSopolis, and we are sure many readers will miss his social board adventures. Colin regularly gave readers an insider view of the world of DiS, from types of apples to iced coffee drinks consumed on site. He leaves behind an enviable legacy of articles and podcasts, plus many a DiScovered and championed band.

Despite rumours of musical differences, him becoming editor of NME or some whisperers suggesting DiS is closing down, the decision was mutual and you can read and respond to a parting statement from Colin HERE. Colin’s post also includes news of what he's up to next, and we wish him the very best of luck.

With this news comes a restructuring and refocusing of DiS. Back at the helm of DrownedinSound.com is its founder, Sean Adams, as Editor-in-Chief. Sean will maintain, oversee and focus the site’s vision, building partnerships with festivals and events, worldwide brands and other sites, as well as soldering the foundations and greasing the wheels and all these clichés. Plus, there's the little matter of developing DiS 2.0 (or whatever number we're fictitiously up to now), which is due at the start of the summer.

"Arguably the finest writer in the country today" as Colin succinctly put it, Mike Diver remains our ever-majestic Content Editor. He’s the site’s man-on-the-ground-with-a-dictamehfone, offering day-to-day reflections on anything from doomcore to Paris Hilton; he’s also the man for PR hounds to pester: "Mikey, baby, can you run a story and competition about band X with a video and this 9meg hi-res picture I've attached that you will shrink down to a 1,000th of the size..."

The restructuring has opened a few must-be-filled positions…

Listings Editor
We may be one of the biggest music sites in the world, but we want to be the best. We want to provide not only thoughts and opinions, but also hard facts and information to structure your lives around. We want to have the best guide to gigs in the UK, then Europe, and then the world; we want our listings, live and release-wise, to be second to none, and this requires the recruitment of new blood. The role of Listings Editor will include elements of data entry and fact finding, will involve writing previews and ensuring band profiles are up to date, and will definitely find the successful applicant going out to a lot of gigs for free! It is, we hope, the dream job for anyone who lives for live music.

Designer(s)
With a new version of DiS looming we're on the look out for a HTML designer or a design team to build us an incredibly sexy user interface, one that makes the most of the site’s wealth of content and its many different user features. The ideal candidate(s) will have experience of creating iconic and functional web designs, and be able to work both with our input and alongside Matt Willson (our tech god) to integrate the design. Please include a cover letter with an outline proposal with your CV.
Additionally, we're looking for someone to design us a new logo as well as t-shirts, flyers, posters, a template for a new monthly PDF 'best of DiS' and banner adverts.

If you think your feet could fit into the above shoes, you’ve an overflowing passion for music and would like to join our six-year-old forward-thinking music organisation with over 150,000 readers a week, then please send your CV to sean.adams@drownedinsound.com. Please write a covering letter and write the position you are applying for in the subject line.
