Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...
sean by Sean Adams November 2nd, 2004
It's about that time of year where you hear... Mumble, Rumble, grind, rumble... as the Glastonbury rumourmill gets into full swing...

First up... following the untimely death of broadcaster John Peel, Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis has hinted that The Undertones may be the first band to headline the newly renamed John Peel Stage (formerly the New Bands tent) at next year’s festival. What with ‘Teenage Kicks’ widely known to be Peel’s favourite song.

"As soon as The Undertones found about the John Peel Stage they were on the phone asking if they could play on the stage because John helped make them too," Eavis told the Bristol Evening Post. "I expect they will be headlining on the John Peel Stage on the Saturday."

He added: "John was always involved in Glastonbury and he was instrumental in the success of many bands that have played there. I remember him talking about The Smiths in 1983 so I went to watch them play at Bristol University and they were terrific, so I booked them for Glastonbury 1984. John Peel helped to make them, and they were brilliant - that's what helped turn Glastonbury around really."

Outkast with their massive crossover hit of last year are also rumoured to be playing/returning, as well as Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol and The Streets. DiS would like to add the - made-up cus it'd be obvious and good if it happens - rumours that Tom Waits, The Bangles, A Silver Mount Zion, Bjork, Elton John (just imagine the glamour and the chance to hear 'Rocketman' and 'Tiny Dancer' back to back), Prince, Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Beck, Bruce Springsteen, will all be playing. Post your rumour suggestions below...

Tickets should be on sale from 1st April 2005.
