Break Your New Year's Resolutions in Style at DiScore #2
Break Your New Year's Resolutions in Style at DiScore #2
DiSvsMatt by Mat Hocking December 23rd, 2003
Drowned In Sound invite you to break your New Year's resolutions in style at our second DiScore night upstairs at The Garage Tuesday 6th January.

Yes, no sooner have we recovered from the hardcore Christmas shindig that was our debut DiS-core night at The Electrowerkz - with the fabulously chaotic Murder of Rosa Luxemburg, the frighteningly insane Birds of Paradise, the hip-swingingly angular Silent Front and the trucker cap wearing non-truckers Face For Radio - than we spring our second night on you our cool hip music-loving readers.

Whereas our launch showcased the exciting new directions that UK hardcore is evolving into, with our second we’ve decided to go all punk rock on yo’ asses. In an age where many upstarts are sadly taking their lead from bland American tenth wave copyists using the punk moniker to propel them into the Honda sponsored big league, DiS has hand selected a bunch of acts we think are progressing UK melodic punk in a way that, well, just feels right; acts that are prepared to carve their own niche; acts that are anorexic with pretension but obese with energetic, heart-swelling tunes and a stage-storming temperamentality.

Just remember to bring your dancing shoes.

About The Bands:

APPEASE
As relatively new additions to the Mighty Atom stable Bolton’s Appease have been generating a healthy buzz in the underground scene in recent years as guests to such lumineraries as The Movielife and labelmates Hondo Maclean. And it’s evident, listening to their latest EP that all the hard work has paid off; these young ‘uns demonstrating an enviable knack for fusing catchy melodies with the kind of crushing grooves and foot stomping beats that are just perfect for the live setting.

THE KILLEREST EXPRESSION
When DiS first caught these Brummie punksters in a packed West Midlands sweatbox - under their previous guise of The Buggers - they ran through one of the most incredible high-octane performances we’d ever seen of a then-unsigned band (including a note-perfect rendition of Iron Maiden’s classic ‘Run To The Hills’)! It was nothing short of incendiary, and the kind of performance that has ensured a reputation as one of the UK’s most respected punk acts. Suffice to say their forthcoming split EP with K-Line most definitely takes UK melodic punk to un-chartered territories the band melding underground Indie rock onto a raw punk base to result in some of the most beautiful, soul-hugging songs ever to come out of the UK. Definitely ones not to be missed!

ANONYMOUS TIP
As probably the bounciest and poppiest of the bunch London’s Anonymous Tip focus on creating the kind of frantic sing-a-long anthems that are as intoxicating as they are totally irresistible. They sent their demo CD earlier this year to the one and only Snuff for some mixing tips and advice, but the seminal punkers were so taken aback by the quality on display that they invited them to be the first signings to their newly formed 10Past10 label! Fresh from a UK support tour with the cheeky punkers Anonymous Tip have proved that on stage they’re even more sussed, throwing themselves around some top-quality melodic punk with a humorous English edge.
