@ the Windmill: DiS Presents... 13/11/2002
sean by Sean Adams November 11th, 2002
ALOHA!

Oh look, another Drownedinsound night at the Windmill - just off Brixton Hill in London.. and what of this weeks showcasing of "interesting and exciting new bands" we hear you ask. More drunken noisy rock antics? You betcha.. what about some art-rock, art-indie and a bit of art-metal? Some instrumental, some loudness, some rawness and a little tenderness? All of that? In one night? Oh, okay, seeing as it's you!

First up @ 9pm...

Project Abner
A bit of Boy Hits Car crashes into a Tool-scape in the frontrow, bowing and spitting at System of a Down... to say this London lot have impressed us would be such an understatement. This lot are exciting and remind us what rock and metal can give, why it's exciting, why the Deftones meant so much and inspired so many bands. But this lot take it a new way, with longer songs, different influences flickered like a kid with a paint brush all over the walls of rocks hall of fame. They'll make it there oneday too..

Free cd: Send a SAE, to: Project Abner, 385 Highbury Quadrant, Islington, London, N5 2TB.

Redjetson
This lot are hard to explain (hur, hur!). They're from the scene down in Southend (see also: Smother, Engerica, Cars as Weapons..) and there songs are full of drama and cracked nail edginess.. They're a little bit dreamy, with ominous, drawn outness, crawling up through your veinsness, into your memories of Joy division but then the blood rushes and i stop seeing my shoes and suddenly the worlds shaking with static. Art Punk, indeed. They're on sometime just before 10.

Mountain Men Anonymous
Godspeed! Mogwai! Instrumental! Cardiff! There, got that outta the way, that's all you need to know, apart from the fact Adam from the band does infact write for DiS as well as Careless Talk. And that they're great. And a lotta people love 'em. Just come witness this, s'gonna be damn good. Headlining, so on around 10:30.

There ya go. All that for £3, all monies go to the bands. Free drowned in sound badges will be available. Doors open at 8. Drinks cheap. Say hello to us stood around the door. Think I'll leave Sigur Ros playing for the first hour.

See ya there!

Coming up..
Wed 27th Nov
S.Rock Levinson - A band with all the power and passion of The Pixies fronted by a singer with the wry vibe of the Reverend Ian Curtis. Four Day Hombre - if Simon and Garfunkel were on some lethal cocktail of alcohol and painkillers... Sufferkiss - 'a fresh approach to angry, guitar-driven music'.

**XMAS PARTY**
Sun 8th Dec. 8 bands from 4pm including a bbq

Weds Dec 18th Tsuji Giri + Haiku:My:Iq + Cars as Weapons
