DiS Southampton #2 - Departure & Dead! Dead! Dead! - 04/10/04! ***SOLD OUT***
DiS Southampton #2 - Departure & Dead! Dead! Dead! - 04/10/04! ***SOLD OUT***
Andy by Andrew Farley September 2nd, 2004
No, we haven’t forgotten you, Southampton. After Colour Of Fire rocked local Lennon’s Nightclub from its foundations earlier in the year, Drowned In Sound is back for another debauched night and we’ve got an amazing couple of bands for you to check out. Here’s all you need to know:

Who’s playing? The Departure + Dead! Dead! Dead!

Where? LENNON’S NIGHTCLUB, Onslow Road, Southampton. The night is in association with our friends at Long Live Rock And Roll.

When? MONDAY 4th OCTOBER 2004

How much? £4.00 in advance (plus small booking fee). Drink prices from £1

How? ***SOLD OUT*** Tickets have now officially sold out. Thanks to all of you who bought them.

How long? 9pm till 2am

What's it all gonna sound like?

**The Departure**

In the short time Northampton five-piece The Departure have been together they’ve managed to create an amazingly distinct sound for themselves, sounding something like a mash up of the The Killers, The Smiths and Franz Ferdinand. Importantly it sounds AMAZING. You shouldn’t need us to tell you this, however, as their debut single crashed into the top 30 in August, with little fanfare, I might add. It must have been that DiS interview that did it. Watch them fly.

**Dead! Dead! Dead!**

It would be fair to say Southampton-based Dead! Dead! Dead! have caused a bit of a stir on the local scene since they emerged less than a year ago. They’ve taken their brand of inventive art-pop to a select few local venues and received rave reports wherever they’ve gone. This culminated in the release of their self-financed debut EP in August that includes the magnificent George Lassoes The Moon (Think a more likeable Coral fused with Joy Division) and the beautiful ballad Vauderville. Musically mature, elegant and well read, Dead! Dead! Dead! could easily be the best band you haven’t yet heard.

+Us on the decks!

Myself and Kate Price (not that Kate Price, before you ask!) will be spinning some of the finest tunes you’re ever likely to hear on a night out, right through till 2am. Don’t you find one of the most frustrating things about seeing a band is the immediate come down of leaving the venue? Aren’t some of the best gigs the ones where you stay and dance the night away? Anyways, you get the picture. Two top bands. Two top (ahem) DJ’s. Alcohol. Fun stuff. And the ability to say YOU were there.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or are in a band who’d like to take part in future Drowned in Sound events in Southampton you can email me (adfarley@lineone.net) or Kate Price (kate.price@drownedinsound.com). Oh, and The Departure's second single, Be My Enemy is out on October 18th. Dead! Dead! Dead!'s limited debut EP is available from HMV, Essential and FM Music in Southampton.
