Bloc Party

Little Thoughts

Label: Wichita Release Date: 12/07/2004

6360
mannot by Michaela Annot July 20th, 2004

A little thrill seeped through our cynical bones when we learnt that Bloc Party are now Chart Stars. Well, top 40. Which is in itself, a minor miracle, bearing in mind that 12 months ago, they were playing to merely the intimate and informed. Now however, they are heard by x number of millions on the Radio 1 countdown with some insufferably young and good looking man doing the voice over inbetween... success...

Which is very cool. Despite the fact that 'Little Thoughts' is actually the least-great single of the three they have released in their fledgling career. Which is obviously not to say that it's in anyway average, or merely even 'good'. It's still great. It rattles along urgently and has a giant-sized chorus to hang your heart onto, complete with those loveably crap backing vocals that bassist Gordon always supplies. Apparently though, we'll have to wait till January for an album. Which is possibly the worst news I have heard all year.

Until then though, we have this gem, as well as the touching 'AA' side, 'Tulips' and a rather wonderful stomping, sparse disco mix of 'Banquet'. Ah well. It's the little thoughts that count...
