The Hives

Walk Idiot Walk

Label: Polydor Release Date: 05/07/2004

6280
rubbafish by Colin Weston July 4th, 2004

Sweden is great isn't it? Ikea, Ace Of Base, Henrik Larsson and the chef from the Muppets are just some examples of the culture they have exported to our shores. Now, their garage rocking musical sensations The Hives are back after a short hiatus and they are back with style!

Despite the fact the band look like extras from Dusk Till Dawn it can't take away from the fact that Walk Idiot Walk is as catchy as the clap but without the itchy side effects! With a riff that will etch itself into your brain after just one listen and a groovy bass line, the band haven't stepped away from what has made them a household name, just expanded on it and produced a great ass-wiggling, head-nodding, toe-tappin' tune - as that is what they do best!

On the downside it’s as lyrically weak as the alcohol content of Kaliber, but that’s a minor niggle. I am not looking for life-affirming words of wisdom from anyone who calls themselves 'Howlin' Pelle'! This will do as well as Hate To Say I Told You So, and fair play to them, because at the moment the band really are hot shit - or as the Swedes would say; 'i en klass för sig.'
