Terrashima

New Demo

Label: Release Date: 26/07/2003

_kp_ by Kate Price July 26th, 2003

Terrashima, terrashima, terrashima… Never before have such a no-mark band made so large and hellish a dint in the minds of those who’ve experienced their, quite frankly, cunt of an ex-singer. Now just imagine if Terrashima hadn’t told you to fuck off and die when you complimented them on their show, pushed you into the pisser mid-flow or generally tried to get all punk rock on your not-actually-trying-to-fuck-them-over ass.

See, despite having suffered from all their efforts thus far being vommited all over by an amazing ability to upturn the noses of the most supposedly r'n'r of people (see: being thrown off the Raging Speedhorn and Il Nino tour), fact is, Terrashima are actually pretty fucking good.

Sacking their oh-so-controversial vocalist in favour of a more, shall we say, “press-friendly” approach to the band was a pretty hit and miss step to take but, lucky them, they already had another natural frontman lined up and ready to scream in your face. This new 3-track demo recorded only last month proves that, even as a three-piece, Ryan (guitar and vocals), Mike (bass) and Dan (drums) can still whip up the kind of sonic assult that grinds your eardrums till they bleed with pleasure.

Straddling a choppy gap between Stooges-style stripped-down chunky mantras and Winnebago-style Kurt Cobain induced dizziness, Terrashima have created the perfect soundtrack to trashing your house and setting your dog on fire. Irate and raunchy but at the same time, beautifully uncomplicated, the finishing track, ‘Beef’ stands out by a mile as one of the sharpest, most addictive hardcore tracks I’ve heard for months.

Second time round, it seems that Terrashima are determined to do this right, and this demo is a pretty damn good start!
