Young Knives

Here Comes The Rumour Mill

Label: Transgressive Release Date: 27/02/2006

With Bloc Party currently amidst a well-earned hiatus and the Kaiser Chiefs now firmly ensconced in the Champions League, the mantle has been passed to Oxford based trio The Young Knives to bring a mixture of bravado, credibility and intelligence to the charts.

If last year's 'The Decision' was like a Brewers Fayre prawn cocktail, 'Here Comes The Rumour Mill' and its three accompanying side dishes are a five star main course at Camerino by comparison.

Coming on like the Holy Trinity of Ray Davies, Damon Albarn and Paul Weller in their immaculately coiffeured, lyrically astute prime, '...Rumour Mill' is a glorious stop start filled number that will undoubtedly cause locomotion style train crashes on the Rescued! dancefloor of a Saturday night.

Better still though are 'Elaine', a semi-acoustic jaunt through the entire doctrine of 'The Village Green Preservation Society', and the 'Futureheads on sweet leaf salad and Margaritas' toe-warmer that is 'Kitchener'.

Take my word for it, The House Of Lords never sounded so good...
