Alabama 3

Reachin'

Label: One Little Indian Release Date: 27/01/2003

3246
droberts by Dan Roberts February 5th, 2003

Welcome back to the electronic deep south. Alabama 3 ? the boys who were definitely born in the wrong part of the world - are back and the message is a familiar one.

Redemption, salvation, and hoping for a better day are all themes that have been visited before by the band, but that hasn?t stopped them going down the same route again with 'Reachin?'. Not entirely a bad thing however, when you have the outstanding vocals of Larry Love on hand to give you that low-down dirty sound. Gravelly? It?s more like dual-carriage highway tarmac. The bass resonance in his voice could be used to disorientate dogs.

It does seem as if Larry believes he may have been acting high and mighty after finding newfound fame with that theme tune though; admitting he has been ?talking Jackson Pollocks, walking Tony Soprano?,

Alabama 3 are good enough to not have to change their style of funked-out gospel, but it would be interesting to see what would happen if they tried.
