Lemon Jelly

Nice Weather for Ducks

Label: Release Date: 03/01/2003

swijetilleka by Sajini Wijetilleka January 4th, 2003

I can't think of anybody who would want to buy this.......

A gentleman not dissimilar to the irrepressible Uncle Adolph from the Sound of Music bellows the listener into the surreal realm of Lemon Jelly.

The sleigh bells and glockenspiel of Austria are a wisely abandoned focus, giving way to some mid-tempo beats, a string quartet and acoustic guitar reminiscent of a travel programme theme tune I cannot rightly place. Uncle Adolph bounces back at regular intervals, a funky crescendo takes place, and with a competent brass band employed to bring in a grand finale, I can see the Avalanches comparison, but am perplexed as to what the fuss is about on the strength of this inimitable but seemingly pointless tune, which is, as a single, neither danceable or listenable. Definite album filler.
