A quiet verse which builds up to a loud chorus, add some explosive riffs with some above average lyrics and you have the fourth single by the great Biffy Clyro to be lifted from their fantastic debut album ’Blackened Sky.’

One may say what’s all the fuss; I’ve heard all this before, that same quiet-loud formula used a hundred times. The truth is, you probably have, but ”Joy.discovery.invention” is a prime example of a band doing it right. It gently lullabies you with it’s heartfelt lyrics before burying you in an avalanche of guitars.

The second A-side, the fantastically named ”Toy, Toys, Toys, Choke, Toys, Toys, Toys”, is more of an indie-metal hybrid with guitars cranked to eleven and a screaming chorus that will wake the neighbours.

With ”Joy.discovery.invention”, Biffy Clyro** aren’t inventing anything new but their version of this now popular quiet/LOUD formula is full of melodies, vocal harmonies and top-notch guitar riffs.
