hype” was talking bollocks**

As this is the band’s debut release and

it’s probably Scotland’s best export since erm… Irn Bru. Purple Munkie’s

sound is hard to describe, they’ve captured the teenage energy of a

‘Captain’-era Idlewild, the song writing ability of My Vitriol first single

and there’s also restrained hints of a Mogwai influence when they crank up the

volume. The four songs are all first-class although ‘Queens of’ is

the strongest track on the EP. It features a powerful chorus and a full-scale

assault on your eardrums where they jump on all the effects peddles and thrash

away at their guitars until their fingers bleed not unlike Mogwai’s ‘Ithica

27 f 9’.  ‘Close enough to touch’ is more tranquil compared to

the other three, it’s very gentle and it chugs along without a major change of

pace or volume apart from when the trumpet solo kicks in, it sounds a bit like

Low or one of Mogwai’s quieter tracks.  Can’t wait for the next EP!
