Well, its starts promising, with the somewhat patronisingly titled “jungle sounds” intro which adds a sonic palette of samples and sound that makes it stand out more than a usual demo, looking like its got some thought in it. And then the riffage begins. Big heavy riffage, led and underpinned in the main by a huuuge fuzzy distorted bass sound that provides most of the heavyness of the sound rather than the rather weedy guitar sound. When I saw them live, I was trying to watch the bas splayer – if only to nick his tricks….Singer Matt sounds like Dez of Coal Chamber, all gruff and really quite unhappy, only minus the emotiveness, and intelligibility . But unfortunately, before long, the song “Lighten the Load” degenrates into some derivative nu-metal sludge, with squealy and totally unsuitable guitar work from Tony Warbuton, ex-Cerebral Fix, which is the main selling point of the band, and unfortunately, its biggest drawback also.

All in all, compotent, occasionally sludgy and indistinct recording quality, but shows a lot of potential. The songs are there, the sound is there, the drummer is excellent, but really the band need less one-dimensionalness and more variety in their songs before they’ll make any impact. Their sound is mainly derived from the Us nu-metal scene, but whereas many bands rely on walls of guitars for their heavyness, here the heaviness is from an underpinning sludgy bass which seems to rule over everything else, which lends them an unusual air, despite alack of dynamics. If they could have lyrics I could work out (rather than a chorus of woooargh” on “Talking Not Walking”), and a little more work on the songs, they could stand out. But right now, there’s a lot of potential, but not fully realised.
