Sennen

Blackout

Label: Hungry Audio Release Date: 08/10/2007

Long championed by many a DiSser, there was a feeling Norwich four-piece Sennen had perhaps lost their way a little after recent singles 'Let You Down' and 'A Life To Live' seemed to retread old ground without adding much of any real interest.

Thankfully, 'Blackout' tells an entirely different story. With the guitars turned up to the limit and a melody that gives TV On The Radio's_ 'Wolf Like Me' _a run for its money, this isn't just a return to form. It heralds a new beginning for Sennen, and should finally see them make their mark in wider circles; not before time, too.

The vocal harmonies between Laurence Holmes and Richard Kelleway still spread goose pimples up the spine, while the nagging, feedback-drenched riff that guides 'Blackout' from start to end should eliminate their name from any discussions of tweeness for the foreseeable future.

On the reverse side, 'A Different Life' is more of a mellow comedown compared to its sister track, the perfect accompaniment to the five minutes of sonic mayhem exercised within_ 'Blackout'_.

It's good to have Sennen back, and in such a seemingly unstoppable vein too. Blissful.
