Assert have had their fair share of misfortune since their ‘Left Opposition’ release on Household Name a few years back. When this aggressive slab of politically challenging hardcore punk first stabbed the UKHC scene Assert had asserted themselves as the uncompromising force at the forefront of UK hardcore. This may also have been helped by drummer Spen & guitarist Johnny Sinister’s proclivity to play naked at every show, which was always rather amusing.

However since then Assert have been plagued by constant line-up changes and only now has Britt found a stable band (including ex-Efficacy guitarist) with which to assault the masses on their never-ending tours of the nations toilet circuit. ‘Insurrection Rocks’ is their third full-length and is sure to see them returning to their rightful position once more. These are 14 anthems of pure angst-filled hardcore that flicks 2 fingers up to all the political & social crap that hardcore’s always stood against over the years.

From the title alone you kinda get the idea of the kind of agitated rebelliousness that is the essence of Assert and the line _“You and me, we gotta be free/ we’re the forces of victory” _[Forces of Victory] kind of asserts that. This is tight, well-played hardcore which is only let down by the drummer’s decision to use a baked bean tin instead of a snare.
