Hundred Reasons

Two

Label: Columbia Records Release Date: 06/08/2001

-Raz- by Raziq Rauf July 16th, 2001

"Two" is the 'cleverly' titled, yes you guessed it, second release from the Surrey quintet. This EP has been long awaited by many as it has been a full year since the release of their first attempt entitled, equally cunningly, yes you guessed it again, "One".

Beginning with a slightly understated riff, 'Remmus' never really catches hold of you. *Doran's *vocals seem forced and patchy and you can wonder what it might have sounded like if it was sung by the backing vocalist. This is not really a song that you can hum to, or sing back to yourself on the train on the way home from work. It is quite *nice *to listen to with the two vocalists complementing each other much better than the current batch of American nu-metallers. There is a nice guitar solo - prompted by a nice, clearly audible "Whooo" - in the middle which you can sway and nod to.

Similarly the 1st b-side - 'Soapbox Rally' - is prompted by a cough. Nice. But then the riffage occurs and he starts shouting again. Oh dear. But it still manages to sound quite good. 'Shine' contains slightly less shouting from Doran and the guitars are slightly more subdued but there are some incensed backing vocals in the vein of Rod Jones from Idlewild.

The b-sides are similar in style to 'Remmus' and include similarly intricate backing vocals and harmonies. This is a rather inoffensive EP which has been worked upon for a while but never quite reaches brilliance but is still quite nice.
