Infants

Friend Paste

Label: Tigertrap Release Date: 22/01/2007

19817
holliy by holliy January 15th, 2007

Neither of the two tracks on this single are actually called Friend Paste - it’s not cool to mislead the kids, you know. But whatever – the two tracks that do appear here (that’s ‘Firetruk Theme’ and ‘Information’, fact fans) are two shots of hyperactive, attack-mode fun with such silliness appeal that, well, we’ll call it 'three titles for the price of two!' and let Infants get away with it.

All four band members join in the singing, meaning vocal styles range from hardcore growling through random whoops and hollers to shouted choruses and excitable bursts of yelling in Japanese. Beneath this is a stop-start-grind-distort-repeat wall of nastiness, containing all the ingredients of Fucking Horrible Noise but tempering it with enough joyous absurdity to be a fun as well as full-on listen. The guitars give the impression of trying to drill through your stereo speakers, the synthesisers occasionally deviate from their usual 'distorted burglar alarm' mode to make room for some sly disco-pop fizziness, and the whole falls somewhere between hardcore chaos and mash-up Japanese electronica.

Which, though a tad likely to induce ear-bleeding, is definitely a good thing.
