Amusement Parks On Fire

Yesterday's Mistakes

Label: GM Recordings Release Date: 02/05/2005

8198
domgourlay by Dom Gourlay April 30th, 2005

** Amusement Parks On Fire** be solely responsible for the rediscovery of such purveyors of the art of sonic eclecticism as Slowdive and Chapterhouse without ever having heard either of them before, but on 'Smokescreen' it's impossible to deny the similarities between Mike Feerick's choral voice and anything Neil Halstead or Andrew Sherriff ever uttered within the confines of a glass-proofed booth and an 8-track recorder.

The title track however, offers something completely different.

Oi Va Voi's chilling instrumental, which sounds like the backdrop to a documentary for the Cold War, gets a sonic multiplication in velocity and when the luscious tones of KT Tunstall infectiously take over, Amusement Parks On Fire's nascent journey from the start to the finishing line suddenly takes an almighty leap.

Conceived in Nottingham.

Made in Bristol.

Bound for heaven.
