TEAM

Resonate South

Label: Captains of Industry Release Date: 07/02/2005

Mike_Diver by Mike Diver February 1st, 2005

With an unrelenting riff as big as Prince Andrew’s yearly travel expenses, TEAM’s second single, and first to be properly lifted from their quite frankly stunning Penalyn album, comes on like Soundgarden’s necrophiliac ghost fucking Slint’s still-warm corpses til their post-rock brains fall out. Indeed, so brutal is the sole riff that fills the four-and-some minutes of ‘Resonate South’ that it renders the rest of the song – replete with spoken-word style lyrics a la Joeyfat – fairly irrelevant; there’s no discernible ‘tune’ as such, at least not in any conventional sense.

Such an uncompromising start is no bad thing though, as this three-track package is completed by a brace of tuneful post-punk-ish efforts, providing welcome relief from the title track’s skull-flogging intensity. The stop-start dynamics of ‘Racing Line’ in particular are perfectly suited to a dingy rock club dancefloor, back-arching moves a certainty. Not spent any quality time with TEAM yet? Consider this your introduction to one of the country’s finest rock acts.
