Mastodon

Capillarian Crest

Label: Warner Bros. Release Date: 04/09/2006

15958
-Raz- by Raziq Rauf September 4th, 2006

How deep is your love for Mastodon? I love them inside out and am very glad that they’re back in town with a new album and a new plan.

If you thought that listening to their previous work was too much heaven then you’ll always run the risk of disappointment. Had they returned with Leviathan Mk II, it would have been an absolute tragedy.

‘Capillarian Crest’ _is the initial slice of slow-rocking, ultra-technical metal from the forthcoming _Blood Mountain LP, and it has all the spectacular execution and multifaceted songwriting that we’re used to. But you’ll be pleased to know that the always-unorthodox quartet has upped the ante.

This will blow your mind.

It comes at you, reminiscent of ‘Megaladon’, but then transforms, mutates and transcends all of their former complexities. Super-fast and with extra genres tucked into their pockets, the song breaks down into rolling thunder and howling dramatics. The eagle-eyed will spot exactly how Mastodon intend on staying alive.
