The Concretes

Warm Night EP

Label: EMI Records Release Date: 13/12/2004

7302
gdobson by Gareth Dobson December 13th, 2004

So… what’s your Christmas tuneage of choice? Is it that big, meaty sing-a-long ala Slade, Wizzard and Fountains of Wayne? (and do you really want an alien for Christmas?)

Or are you one of those people that like to snuggle up with something/one warm by a fire, mulled wine in hand, with dreams of snow, reindeer and good cheer?

Fans of the former aren’t going to be too impressed with The Concretes’ very own winter warmer, but those who cherish the thought of long absent white Christmases will certainly be beholden in love to the ’Warm Night EP’. The opening eponymous track is a heart-warming slow shanty, more akin to a jolly Low than anything else, while ‘Seems Fine Shuffle’ is a violin strewn lamentive affair. Wrap things up with a graceful ’Lady December’ and a woozy ‘The Warrior’ and you’re away.

Mince pies optional.
