Biffy Clyro

Glitter and Trauma

Label: Beggars Banquet Release Date: 09/08/2004

sean by Sean Adams August 11th, 2004

Biffy, biffy, biffy...

Let’s get these words outta the way: prolific, hard working, greatest touring band of the last decade, dance beats, time changes… WAIT! Dance beats? Where’d these come from? Me either. But my word, like absinthe and champagne cocktails, it works. Biffy are in a chart-attacking, party mood. Stop. Get into the groove. Dance muthas...

Biffy really do_ 'do pop' this time around. And they bludgeon it with slabs of art-joy. _’Glitter and Trauma’ is the opening slice off of their forthcoming (and frankly, fantastic once again) third album ’Infinity Land’. Guitars flutter over tribal tubthumping. Simon's lyrics glide in that tried and tested psyche psychedelic Biffy way. S'all rushes of imagery and reality inflections: “You, you are, you are the human strobe_”. We’re lost in music.

The b-sides are noizy and once again full of ideas which we’ll only truly understand and appreciate in a decade's time. But the single's great and Biffy are now a true force to be reckoned with. Without pop subversion, without polluting the mainstream, none of us would be here today. A generation of Busted fans need guidance. The revolution will not be homogenized.

Now, get that contented, knowing smile back on your face and ‘mon the Biffy!
