Johnny Boy

You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve

Label: Vertigo Release Date: 02/08/2004

6448
Ross by Ross Bennett August 8th, 2004

With a flock of harmonies circling above a beautiful, warming melody of twinkling sensation, Johnny Boy’s second single really flies. The duo’s twisting, bubbling tune takes us through The Ronettes' 'Be My Baby' to Joy Division’s ‘Atmosphere’, constantly tickling the soaring changes with ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ style tape loops. With some lofty production from James Dean Bradfield, this song is infectious in its relentless ambition.

Apart from having one of the worst titles to appear in some time – it's almost as long as The Manics' own 'Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayitsworldwouldfallapart' – Lolly Hayes and Davo have produced a piece of ethereal pop brilliance. Listen to this alongside Delays' ‘Nearer than Heaven’ and your feet won’t touch the ground.
